Random Fact Friday: The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Crap

Fact: I received my first Bag of Crap this week from Woot!

Every once in a while, Woot has a "bag of crap" you can purchase. It can be anything from a Blu-ray player to a Snuggie. These are normally extremely hard to get buy because they sell out quick. On my lunch break at work, I saw they posted on Facebook that they were selling Bag of Crap, and I got one! I was so excited.

While my Bag of Crap wasn't anything spectacular, it was still fun!

As you can see, I got:

1. A rather interesting alarm clock
2. Yellow headphones. Too bad I just bought some new headphones!
3. Dog bones for my invisible dog.
4. Mini highlighters!! Cute!
5. Woot! Shirt... Women's size Small. I'm pretty sure that by the time I'd lose that much weight, we'll all be wearing silver jumpsuits. It's so cute too; I love the color. Sooo... I'm giving it to my sister!
6. Sewing kit! Now I can finally start sewing. Ahahaha. As if the reason I didn't have a sewing kit was why I don't sew.
7. Flower tote bag! Who can't use more tote bags?
8. OH! And they kind of got cut out of the picture, but I also got some dish clothes that were cute. They're behind the alarm clock.

Have a great three-day weekend! I'm heading up north toward cooler weather for some much needed best friend time with my sister from another mister, Valarie. Yaaaaay!

Throwback Thursday: Itty Bitty Michelle

Ahhh... yes, the good ol' days!

My Mom 'n Pops... and oh... who is that little bundle of not-so-much-joy?
ME...Circa 1987!

I loved taking pictures. Now-a-days, I'd rather be the one behind the camera.

This is probably my most favorite picture. Look how hip I was!

We had a pretty awesome 50s Diner in town. It was always my favorite.

Pinsday: Encouragement

I apologize for the lack of creativity in this post. I've been sick this week and in need of encouragement. I hope these find you well.

Tunesday: The Civil Wars

Band/Musician: The Civil Wars
Where I heard it first: Sam first heard them on Noisetrade and showed them to me. They didn't really stand out to me until I heard them on an episode of One Tree Hill.
Listen if you like: Folk. I can honestly say that I have no idea who else they sound like. I think that's why I love them so much. She (Joy Williams) used to be a Christian solo artist. I didn't care for her much so I'm glad she found the Johnny Depp look alike to join forces with.
Notable songs: "Poison & Wine" "Barton Hollow" "20 Years"

Here's my very favorite, "Poison & Wine."

"Barton Hollow"

"Safe & Sound" with Taylor Swift. I was reminded of this song while watching The Hunger Games a few nights ago. Now I'm not normally a Taylor Swift fan, but I really love this song. It's incredibly beautiful.

Hope you enjoyed them as much as I do!

Snapshot(s) Monday: OPA!

Well, we enjoyed some yummy Greek food this weekend at Fresno's annual Greek Festival. It's always filled with great food, music, booths and a ton of people.

I had myself a gyro and Greek fries. Gyro was really good. It was my first time getting one. I just love the cucumber sauce. I look forward to the fries the most though. They're delicious.

We decided to get away from all the people and sit down. A band started playing, so naturally kids started running around in circles. It was hilarious, and fun to watch them go crazy.

This was the highlight of my weekend. We didn't stay for long, but it was a lot of fun.

His&Her Q&A

His&Her Q&A

What is something weird that your spouse does while sleeping?
His: She'll often turn off the TV, take off her glasses, and not remember doing it. I think she does that in her sleep.
Hers: He talks in his sleep. He's even woken me up a few different times asking me random questions (in his sleep) relating to whatever he was dreaming!

Which of the 7 deadly sins are you? (anger, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, gluttony)
His: Pride. It's a daily battle.
Hers: Ugh. I think I've experienced each of these at one time or another.

What was your favorite hiding place as a kid?
His: Under my bed.
Hers: Hmm... I don't really remember hiding.

What music artist do you love that your other half hates listening to?
His: Oh so much. She would probably say Sigur Ros, but I also listen to some harder music.
Hers: I'm not sure, actually. Probably Nsync or Spice Girls.

What has your other half done lately that has made you love them more?
His: Michelle has shown lately that she can stand up for her convictions. She used to just let things slide if someone said something she disagreed with, but lately if someone offends her she will stand up for herself. It's surprised me, and it's seriously hott!
Hers: I can honestly say he does something every day, even if it's small, to make me love him more. He's the most selfless person I know. Today, I wasn't feeling that great and had a headache basically the entire day. He made sure I was fed, comfortable, had some meds and had a cool towel to keep on my head.

What is your favorite hole-in-the-wall place to eat? (Or just fave restaurant in general?)
His: Dusty Buns.
Hers: Sam has a good one! Dusty Buns is amazing! I'll say Irene's (best burger ever), and Tsing Tao (best chinese food ever)!

What do you admire most about your significant other?
His: Her butt.
Hers: His butt.

Ideally, where would you like to be 5 years from now?
His: Still in Fresno, but not in this apartment.
Hers: I love Fresno! Ideally, in a house that we might own. And maybe even a kid rolling around on the ground that we will be in the process of screwing up. :)

Who wears the pants?
His: I do, but sometimes I let her slip into mine. (not like that! You sicko!)
Hers: We both do. I don't like skirts/dresses. And, well, neither does he.

What is your favorite go-to YouTube video?
His: This video always amazes me. And I love the song!

Hers: One of my favorite songs. And what this guy did with it is amazing.

Random Fact Friday: Milk is evil

Fact: I'm allergic to milk.

I've always had lactose issues. It's gotten better since I've gotten older, but I still try to stay away as much as I can. Whenever I do have a lot of milk or milk products, I always end up regretting it.

And to quote one of my favorite Will Ferrell movies...

I love chocolate. Luckily, I love dark chocolate the most. It not only has less milk in it, but is better for you. Win Win.

But during the Summer, what I love the most is ice cream. And since my in-laws own their own ice cream store, staying away from it is pretty much impossible since I want to bring some home with me whenever we go down to visit.

My husband found chocolate ice cream made with coconut milk at Trader Joe's! It's pretty much amazing, and I don't feel icky after having some. While it doesn't taste exactly the same, it's pretty close. They also make Strawberry.

I'm happy to have found this simple sweet substitute for my love of ice cream -- chocolate ice cream.

Throwback Thursday: I'll be there for you

I was lacking inspiration for this topic so I went on over to one of my favorite Twitter pages to follow: @90sGirlProblems

I can always count on that page for nostalgia. It's almost as if we were best friends growing up. Then I see her tweets about her liking Backstreet Boys over Nsync and it's then I know we weren't friends. Used to love Lance Bass. Too bad he turned out to be gay. You know, because that's the reason we wouldn't be together. -_-

Speaking of Friends, there are six people that I just can't seem to get enough of.
Maybe you've heard of them: Ross, Rachel, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler and Monica.

1. I soooo wish I could visit Central Perk. Gunther!
2. I love Phoebe and her quirkiness! I would definitely be friends with her. Life would never be dull.
3. I'm pretty sure Rachel isn't wearing a bra in any of the episodes. In the 90s, maybe they didn't sell bras in New York.
4. Forget about across the hall (which would also be great), guy roommates would be fantastic! Joey and Chandler would be awesome. And watching The New Girl, I'm realizing how amazing guy roommates would be! Luckily, I have myself a boy to live with me. He kills all the spiders.

Let's see here, what are my favorite episodes? The one where Ross and Rachel finally get together in the second season. HE'S HER LOBSTER! Awww... :)

And I like the one where Brad Pitt comes over for Thanksgiving. "I'm thinking about joining the "I hate Turkey Club. But I do enjoy a Turkey Club." Ooohhh Joey.

I also like the one where they're in Barbados. No one except Monica and Chandler leave with the person they went with. Phoebe and Mike get together. I love it! I'm just a huge Paul Rudd fan -- love his awkwardness.

I know there are more, but those are the three that come to mind. What are your favorites?

I didn't even really start watching Friends until a few years ago when there were reruns. I decided to get the seasons when they were on sale at Target and I can't stop watching the show.

I need to play Friends Scene It again.

Pinsday: Green

My favorite color is green, so naturally whenever I'm pinning stuff, my eyes are drawn to anything that is a shade of green, teal, etc.

Even though the link goes to a site where you can purchase the ankle bracelet, I kind of am in love with those shoes. Now if only I can convince myself to wear heels.

I went through my board "My Closet," and realized that the majority of my pins are green. Actually, if I go through my regular closet, most of my clothes are a shade of green. I'm perfectly alright with that. I fell in love with this top. It's the perfect combination of green and polka dots. Doesn't get much better than that.

I must say that I got super excited when I found a picture that had nothing but green in it!

I can get a new phone in November. Happy Birthday to me! I plan to get an iPhone. Finally. And I really, really want this amazing case. I'm also obsessed with VW, and VW Beetles. I adore the new 2012 VW Beetle. Someday, one will be mine...

Is this not amazing!? Someday, this will be my child.

I looooooooooooooove Fossil. I loooooooooooove this keychain! Tiny green typewriter? Yes please! It also just reminds me of Mad Men which is in my top five favorite television shows.

Can I please just have this olive green door? Is that too much to ask?

First of all, I love the green floor design. Add that with adorable tub, and you have a room I would never want to leave. That's assuming there's a hot bubble bath waiting for me.

Ok, the only thing green about this is the background. But hey, that still counts! Plus, this is just hilarious.

I cannot stop giggling when I look at this picture. It's just far too adorable. I just want to hug them all.

It was so hard to choose between all the wonderful things I've pinned, but you've gotta do what you've gotta do.

Tunesday: Nick Waterhouse

Band/Musician: Nick Waterhouse & The Tarots
Where I heard it first: Through a blog post written by my friend, Angelica. She heard it on Parenthood, which is also a favorite show of mine, I just didn't notice how amazing the song was at first.
Listen if you like:  Hard to compare him to anyone. Anything old school. Buddy Holly. Chuck Berry. When I first heard him, I wasn't sure if he was in his twenties or some sixty-year-old dude. I asked Angelica for some suggestions and she said: Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Mayer Hawthorne and Mel Torme
Notable songs: "I Can Only Give You Everything," "Is That Clear," "Raina" Actually, just go listen to the whole album. I love it all, and I rarely say that.

Angelica and I went to The Getty in July and saw him there. It was pretty much amazing.

He's my newest favorite musician, so I knew he had to be my first Tunesday Spotlight. I hope you enjoy him as much as I have. Here are a couple of videos I took of him at the show:

I wish I could have gotten this posted sooner, but Youtube videos take forever to load!

Snapshot Monday: Birthday Boy!

Sam and I attended two birthday parties this weekend. One for Mario (pictured below) and the other for Stacie (whose birthday is today!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY).

Mario had a surprise birthday party thrown for him and I snapped this picture right after he took his blindfold off.

I think this picture portrays his fun, outgoing, gushing-with-personality self.

Birthday parties are always a hoot.

His&Her Q&A

And now... for your reading pleasure...
A few questions answered by yours truly and her husband.

Your house is on fire. What five items do you grab before you leave?
His: Keys, phone, book bag (it's not a purse), whatever books I can grab, and shoes, cuz I don't wanna be homeless AND barefoot
Her: Purse, phone, laptop, record player and my rubber duckie collection

If you could be/had to be the main character of any movie, who would you be?
His: Scott Pilgrim, because all my other favorite characters die.
Her: I realize I would be a boy, but William Miller from Almost Famous. My favorite movie. A teenage journalist who follows a band around to write a cover page article for Rolling Stone? I think so!

What physical feature do you love most about yourself?
His: My big toe, otherwise I would walk crooked.
Her: My green eyes!

Tell us why your name is your name. And if you don't have (or know) an answer, make one up.
His: Samuel was a person in the Bible, and my parents picked it because at a young age he heard God speaking to him.
Her: Michelle.... someone my dad worked with? I don't remember.

What is the greatest place you've ever traveled to?
His: I once walked on an overpass above one of the busiest highways in Thailand to get some Starbucks after surviving a monsoon at the beach, and I knew I would never forget that moment.
Her: Rio De Janeiro, Brasil. Hands down.

Are you a morning person or a night person?
His: I used to be a night person, but lately I've been a morning kinda guy.
Her: Night person, unfortunately. I'm hoping to change that.

Who is someone you wish you were closer to?
His: My baby sister.
Her: In-laws.

What quality do you have that you hope your kids inherit?
His: My cooking skills.
Her: My love of English. Reading. Writing. Grammar. I want them to be well-educated people.

What's your favorite memory with your childhood best friend?
His: I never had one...
Her: Board games. I also remember when my mom would take her car out of the garage and my friends would come over and we would put together a Barbie city inside! It was completely with houses, stores, school, etc. SO fun!

If you had to move out of the country where would you move to?
His: Finland.
Her: Brasil. Great people, food and a beautiful country. I love it there and I miss my friends!

Random Fact Friday: Shoooeess

Fact: I bought my first pair of Toms last weekend.

Official hipster right here.
I thought of this meme:

Anyway, I love my new shoes. They're adorable and will match pretty much anything I wear since the majority of my clothing is some shade of green, blue or black. I promise I'm a girl.

Sam and I celebrated our second wedding anniversary last week and went to Pismo for the day. We were blessed with some anniversary cash so we spent it on our mini vacation and still had some leftover. I got my Toms and Sam got a new ESV Bible. Something kind of seems wrong about that last sentence.

Hah. Oh well.

Happy Happy Anniversary to us!

Throwback Thursday -- Spice Up Your Life

What do I do when Sam goes to worship practice at church and I'm home alone?
Watch Spice World, of course.

Ever since The Spice Girls had their reunion show at the Olympics Closing Ceremonies on Sunday night, I've wanted to watch this. Just so happens I bought it at Rasputin for $0.95 last year.

I can't believe it's been 15 years since this movie came out. I remember this movie being completely horrible, but I couldn't help but love the music, five best friends, platform shoes, bright colors, British accents and girl power.

And now, to Spice up YOUR Life...

Weeeee!

Pinsday Wednesday: Flat Iron Cozy edition

Wednesday shall be known on this blog as Pinsday!
That means I shall share something I did from Pinterest (good or bad) or something that I just like a lot. We'll see how it goes. I've recently become completely attached to that website. I refuse to believe it's a bad thing. I shall share my findings with you.

Now you may be wondering what a hair straightener and an oven mitt are doing together. Well, turns out they're soul mates.

I have been wanting something I can put my straightener in when it's hot, but I can't really seem to find anything. Then I saw this on pinterest:

http://yourcreativejuices.blogspot.com/2010/09/flat-iron-holder.html
http://yourcreativejuices.blogspot.com/2010/09/flat-iron-holder.html

Brilliant! Since my crafty skills don't extend to sewing, I did it my own way. I went to TJ Maxx to buy an oven mitt (it's next to Target and I had to go there anyway). I stuck the flat iron in there, folded it over, grabbed a hairtie and VOILA!... my own makeshift hot flat iron holder.

This may seem silly to you, but it is quite revolutionary to me. I can't believe I never thought of this!
Anyway, I am looking for a new straightener. Any suggestions on a decently-priced one? I want one with a timer on it. A couple months ago, I was staying in a hotel and ended up leaving it on for several hours. It wasn't until I got up at 4 a.m. to use the restroom that I realized it was still hot and plugged in. I've been wanting one with a timer every since! Suggest away!

Happy Wednesday!

Six Songs of Me

It's Tunesday!
Every Tuesday, I want to showcase a band I think you need to hear.

I'm going to kick off this theme with a website a friend of mine sent me: http://sixsongsof.me/

Whether it was The Beach Boys or Nsync, I've always been into music.
Deciding on six songs is really hard. There are so many good tunes out there and to limit it down to six songs is quite the task.

But,
as Barney Stinson would say,
Challenge Accepted.

1. What was the first song you ever bought?

The Beach Boys - "Wouldn't It Be Nice"

Well, my favorite band as a kid was The Beach Boys. Obviously I can't pinpoint the first song I bought by them since I had their music on a cassette and not iTunes, but I picked this song because it's just simply one of my favorites. Plus, isn't that music video amazing? Gotta love YouTube!

2. What song always gets you dancing?

The Supremes - "You Can't Hurry Love"

I couldn't decide on a song for this one since I basically dance to every song. Then Sam and I were out to dinner for our anniversary and the Phil Collins version of this song came on. I started dancing in my seat. There's even a part in the song where it's just the music... I call that the "dance break," because obviously that's everyone goes crazy dancing and what not since there's not any lyrics to sing along with. YouTube came through once again with an amazing video.

3. What Song Takes You Back to Your Childhood?

Watashi Wa - "Joanna"

Teenagerhood is childhood, right? I saw this band too many times to count. And I loved every moment of it. I still have the sticker Seth signed in my Bible from when my friend Leah and I saw him for the first time in Bakersfield. This was probably my first favorite song from them so that's why I chose it. So many trips to Bakersfield, Fresno, Spirit West Coast, etc. to see them. A highlight was seeing Seth doing an acoustic set in front of the Tooth & Nail booth at Spirit West Coast. These guys really got me loving music.

4. What is Your Perfect Love Song?

Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros - "Home"

This was the hardest one to decide! So many wonderful love songs out there and I can only choose one? Yikes. An obvious choice would have been any Michael Buble song, but decided not to go that way. I could have also chosen "Bridge Over Troubled Water" by Simon & Garfunkel since it was our Wedding dance song. I also love "The Luckiest" by Ben Folds, but alas, I decided to go a different direction. While I love all those songs, I picked "Home" because it's fun and different. Isn't that what love is supposed to be? Fun? I think so. I love everything about this song: the music, the lyrics, the guy, the girl, it's dance-worthy tune... but most of all I love the silly love story in the middle. It's brings a huge smile to my face accompanied by some happy goosebumps. Listen and Love.

5. What song would you want at your funeral?

Frank Sinatra - "My Way"

I can honestly say that I've never even thought of this before. I actually had to Google "funeral songs." I guess I could have said "Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone)," but that's a given. I also came across a beautiful song from Phil Wickham called "Heaven Song." I decided to go with the classic from Sinatra though. I think this is just a great, honest song. Plus, I just love me some Crooners.

6. Time for the Encore. One last song that makes you, you.

Carole King - "Where You Lead"

I had no idea what to choose. This last one was far too broad. I can't believe I skipped over some of my favorites: Michael Buble, The Shins, Jimmy Eat World... the list goes on and on. I apparently decided to keep with the theme of "I was born in the wrong decade because of the music I enjoy." Ok, that wasn't really my theme, it just turned out that way. Story of my life. First of all, I love everything about Carole King. I'm extremely picky when it comes to female singers, but I just love her music, voice and talent. But most of all, I love that she played a huge role on my favorite show, Gilmore Girls. The song I chose was the theme song for Gilmore Girls. King even played Sophie Bloom who was the music shop owner in Stars Hollow. Whenever I'm not feeling right, I always listen to Carole King or turn on some Gilmore Girls and everything gets better.

Well, that was fun to put together! Hope you enjoyed listening to my choices.
What six songs would you choose?
Happy deciding!
