Day 89 & 90: 365 Project

Yesterday Sam and I attended a job fair at the Fresno Fairgrounds. There were several companies there, most of which I wasn't even qualified for. Most of them were just giving out information about their company and encouraging job seekers to apply online. That's okay though, I gave my resume to some places. Here's the stack of papers I collected while there:

I'll be going through this and tossing out stuff I don't need and applying at places that I have a shot at. I even gave my resume to Q97 for a writing-type position they have. I know right, WHAT?! Never thought I would say that! I also found out about several different kinds of websites where I can go job hunting, so that's another good thing that came out of this job fair.

After we finished at the fairgrounds, we went over to Fresno State because they were also having a career fair. Nothing there that concern me much. Got a couple cards, but I think the best thing that came out of this stop was this:

Look at my cool ribbon!!! I was super excited that they had these!

I didn't get a job out of the job fairs, but some opportunities, which I'm happy about. Now just need to see where God wants me. Right now, I'm a full-time job seeker. Luckily, I have a couple more paychecks coming from my former job, but until I find something else, I guess Sam's just my sugar daddy.

Happy Thursday!

Day 88: 365 Project

Well, as most of you already know, Brasil holds a special (and very large) place in my heart. Brasil is home to so many different kinds of wonderful people who have immensely blessed my life. One of those people is my sweet and wonderful friend, Ramon. I actually met him at English camp in my last couple hours there before heading to the airport. He's the one who I keep in contact with the most from Brasil. It's really too bad that I didn't get to spend more time with him while I was actually in the same country! Anyway, after Sam and I got married, he sent us each a pair of Havaianas! Not only were these the perfect gift because I regretted not getting a pair while I was there, but because he had them personalized for us.

As you can see, the left side has my new initials "ML." On the right side, there's an American flag, which you can't see really see in the picture. Creative and personal gifts like these mean a lot to me!

Now that it's getting warmer outside, looks like I'll be able to wear these sandals finally! I'm excited!
Thank you again, Ramon! :)

Day 84, 85, 86 & 87: 365 Project

I like taking pictures of the sky.

I really need to start taking pictures on a daily basis again. It gets boring posting my 'extra' pictures all the time!

The end.

Day 83: 365 Project

Well... I'm cheating. This was actually taken a while ago on campus at Fresno State. I just really think it's a neat picture, so I wanted to share it with you!

Have a great weekend!

Day 81 & 82: 365 Project

The big unveiling!! .. Okay, not really. But check out my cool "new" stuff! :) First! I was really excited to see this in their newsletter email:

Anyway... out with the "old"... A record player I've had for probably 5 years. It's worked wonderfully during that time and still does! Oh yes, and those are my records. I need more room so I can get more. I started buying records before I had a record player. Yay for Salvation Army!

And... in with the... even older... Sooooooo much better than my other one!! Doesn't even compare!

It's all just... so beautiful! Yes, a Sansai SR-222! FOR FREE. :) Looks like it's from the '70s and possibly one of the first made by that company. Sam and I went into Spinners Records to speak with the owner about what to get for it (his store was the one that donated the turn table). Anyway, we needed to get an amplifier and speakers. The amplifier is AWESOME. He had it hooked up already. Both are from the '70s also. I need vintage speakers and amplifier for a vintage turn table, right? I thought so. Anyway, so Sam and I were debating what to do. We were looking through his vinyls and Sam came across this Sinatra Trilogy, which I REALLY wanted! It was priced at $20. Don, the owner, said that if we bought the amplifier and the speakers ($140 -- such a steal!), then he would throw in the record for free. I'm pretty sure that was the final mark made in the pro side of my mental pro/con list!

That's obviously not where we're going to put it. I just wanted to put it all together to take a picture! I seriously can't wait to set it up! So excited!! Want to hear that Sinatra vinyl the way it was meant to be heard!

Thanks again Picture Fresno and Spinners Records!

Day 79 & 80: 365 Project

Well, I forgot to post last night. I actually got online to post a picture, but then I got distracted. So, I'm going to post two pictures today! Exciting, I know.

Yesterday the sun came out just for a few hours. And the dark clouds parted to let the white puffy clouds through. I got to my tutees house early so I decided to take some pictures. Yes, my students are called tutees.. it's weird, I know.

I just really like this picture because of all the different things in it. I like that most of the things in the picture are green, brown, blue, white.. and then there's just a red stop sign. Plus, the tree is beautiful. And I like all the branches sticking out of the trashcan waiting to be picked up by the garbage man.

I've been really enjoying this project so far. It's really gotten my creative juices flowing and gets me out there and active when it comes to photography. I'm constantly taking pictures and I love it. I have so many pictures stored just in case I'm unable to take a photo sometimes. It's just been a really great project for me. I'm almost done with three months. That's crazy! Anyway, hope you've enjoyed my photos so far because I sure have enjoyed sharing them!

On another note,  I'm planning to start another blog. Just something kind of fun that I've been wanting to do for a while. Thrift and antique stores carry the most random, and sometimes the most terrifying looking items from records to books to figurines. I'm going to take pictures of these creepy items and share them with everyone. Should be fun. I'm excited about it!

Blessings!

Day 78: 365 Project

Spinners Records.

Easily one of my favorite places in town. I could spend hours in this tiny place in Tower District. The owner, Don, is so nice and friendly. It's always a joy to speak with him. Sam and I went in there yesterday to see what I needed to get for the turn table that I won from Picture Fresno. He gave us a sweet deal! More on that later when it's set up and I can take a picture.

For now, enjoy this picture. I added a 70s filter to it to make it look more vintage. I love it!
Have a great week!

Day 77: 365 Project

The pool was emptied last week. I don't ever remember seeing the pool empty before. Anyway, it looked pretty creepy, but still cool at the same time. In the [almost] three years that I've lived here, I've never swam in the pool. There are three pools in the entire apartment complex, too. There's always families or college students having BBQs. I never want to interrupt. The closest I got to swimming in the pool was over the summer when Christina came to town. We put our feetsies in the pool right before she left. That was fun!

I've always thought this pool looked like a giant jelly bean!

Happy weekending!

Day 76: 365 Project

Was at a friend's house over the weekend for her daughter's birthday party. The sun was starting to set when we were standing outside about ready to leave. It was beautiful! Of course a picture can truly capture something of beauty, but it can certainly give you an idea. Hope you enjoy!

Day 75: 365 Project

The roses that Sam got me for Valentine's Day last like 2 weeks, if not longer. Roses never last that long! And, to make things even better, they looked really cool wilted. Sam got them from Fresh & Easy. They were wonderful! I was going to throw the roses away at this point because inside the vase started to get moldy and smelly, but I had to take some pictures of the beautifully wilted flowers.

Oh yeah, this picture was taken a while ago. I haven't had these roses for over a month.
See ya'll tomorrow!

Day 68, 69, 70, 71, 72, 73 & 74: 365 Project

Theme: Filtering Fresno

Well, Picture Fresno is awesome. It's such a fun idea! They have biweekly contests where one posts a picture to coordinate with the theme of the week. This time the theme is "authentically Fresno." This was a theme that was a lot of fun to think about! I think I came up with a pretty good idea. Anyway, then once you choose the picture for "authentically Fresno," add the 70s filter from http://picplz.com/ . This site is so much fun! The filters are great. Oh! And you're supposed to take the picture with your cell phone, which I did!

Here's the picture I chose to post:

If you like it, you should vote for it. This week, instead of judges' choice, it's voters choice.
So go vote here: http://picturefresno.com/photos/2011/03/05/its-showtime
AND on their Facebook page (you'll have to scroll down a bit for my picture): http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/PictureFresno

Here are some of the other pictures I considered:

I took this at Christmas Tree Lane in December. I like how the lights are reflecting off the ground.

I took this one a couple years ago. I didn't take it with my phone, that's why I took it out of the running, but I still really like this picture!

I went to Teazer last week because, well, their tea is amazing. I don't even like tea! ... they just make it taste so wonderful. Anyway, a huge part of the tower district, and downtown, are murals (and I don't mean the graffiti).

Everyone inside Teazer. Thought this was a pretty nifty shot.

I still REALLY like this picture! I was going to post this on the site, then decided I wanted a picture of the Tower Theater all lite up! Plus, it bugged me that the top was cut off.

These blossoming trees represent the Valley, and they're evil. My allergies have been out of whack for the last week. I just got over my sinus infection, now my allergies are going bonkers! I just wish they weren't so beautiful...

Yay! Finally caught up! And this should last me until Tuesday. On Wednesday, hopefully I'll be back to posting one picture a day. Hope you enjoy!

Day 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, & 67: 365 Project

Theme: The Sillies!

Okay, I have compiled some silly things I have seen lately. Hope you enjoy them!

This was next to the car next to me... catching rain? Not sure why. The trashcan is less than 20 feet away. Maybe they were just wondering how much it rained one day.

Who needs a table and a coaster? I surely don't! Just need a shoe with good support!

Sam and I went to visit family this weekend. This doggie likes to "claim" me whenever I come over.

Click for a better view! Only in Porterville does a 'truck' like this exist! Haha Taken with my phone, so it didn't turn out that great. There's a wheel attached the the back of the truck.

Since I'm out and about a lot because of my job, I've resorted to using fast food restaurant public bathrooms. This is at a Taco Bell. SO glad they had that sign up... because if they didn't, I would probably still be in that bathroom.

I've seen this penguin at the corner of Blackstone and McKinley ever since I first started working and was determined to snap a picture of him! Haha Love it!

Those are all the silly pictures I have for today. Hope you enjoyed them!

Looks like I'm still two days behind in my project! Be expecting another themed post soon! Something that will hopefully hold me over until next week because I'm super busy this weekend. See ya'll soon!

Day 58, 59, 60 and 61: 365 Project

Well, since I am so very far behind, I'm going to post a couple of posts with different themes. Hope you enjoy! Angelica had an Oscars party. Here are some highlights!

Had no idea that the good box in the back had my name on it until I took the picture!
Princess napping on Camille's legs.

Yes, I made these. And yes, they were delicious!
Ingredients
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter 1 pkg. (10 oz.) marshmallows 5 cups Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds Cereal 1 container (7 oz.) dark semi-sweet dipping chocolate

Directions
MELT butter in large saucepan on low heat. Add marshmallows; cook 5 min. or until marshmallows are melted and mixture is well blended, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat. Stir in cereal. Cool slightly. SHAPE into 24 balls with moistened hands. Place on waxed paper-covered baking sheet; cool completely. HEAT dipping chocolate as directed on container. Dip top of each ball in chocolate; return, dipped-side up, to baking sheet. Refrigerate 15 min. or until chocolate is firm. Cover and refrigerate remaining dipping chocolate.

One of the Blockbusters is going out in town so Sam and I went to check it out. They had these little movie cardboard things 20 for $1, so I got a bunch! I don't know what I'll do with them...but I'll figure out something.
Hope you enjoyed my night at the Oscars. :)
